Homeopathy

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a safe, alternative system of medical care that has been around more than 200 years. It involves treating the individual with highly diluted, natural substances such as plants and minerals, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. Based on their specific symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate homeopathic medicine, or remedy, to each patient.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that “like cures like”, that is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. For example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to this principle, when made into a homeopathic remedy, it could be used to treat people with these symptoms. This concept is sometimes used in conventional medicine. The stimulant Ritalin is used to treat patients with ADHD, or small doses of allergens such as pollen are sometimes used to de-sensitize allergic patients. However, one major difference with homeopathic remedies is that substances are used in very high dilutions, which makes them non-toxic. In addition, remedies are carefully chosen on a very individual basis. There are no “cookie-cutter” approaches with homeopathy!

Homeopathic Remedy

Homeopathic medicines are quite safe: they are known to be non-allergenic, non-toxic, and free of side effects. They are prepared from herbal, mineral, and animal substances by homeopathic pharmacies, under strict guidelines established by the FDA. They are perfectly safe and easy to use for children of all ages. They are even great for pets!

Often, homeopathy can be used in conjunction with other supplements such as herbs, vitamins & minerals, etc… Because care must be taken not to antidote a remedy, please check with your homeopath before taking these.

Homeopathy can be used to treat any acute illnesses such as colds, flu, various infections, skin conditions such as poison ivy, stomach upsets, teething, etc… It is also used for trauma such as bruises, blows, car accidents, head injury, and more.

Beyond just the physical, homeopathy aims to treat the patient as a whole. A homeopath seeks to understand the relationship between the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual levels of a person. Based on this understanding, homeopathy can be used to successfully treat a wide variety of mental and emotional imbalances as well.
